Delhi man held for 3 burglaries in Ahmedabad; gold, cash worth ₹8 lakh recovered

Ahmedabad Police on Monday arrested a 28-year-old man from Delhi in connection with three incidents of housebreaking and theft reported in Navrangpura, Gujarat University and Anandnagar areas, recovering gold ornaments, cash, and a mobile phone collectively valued at ₹8.31 lakh.
As per the police, the accused, identified as Raj Khatri, originally from Samjana Chowk in Kolpur, Nepal, was apprehended following a joint operation by the Navrangpura police and the Zone-1 Local Crime Branch (LCB).
The officers reviewed CCTV footage from the crime scenes. The visuals matched the modus operandi and facial features of Raj, who had earlier been detained in a case registered at Vastrapur police station.
A tip-off from a private informant led police to Mithakhali Garden, where the accused was spotted wearing a blue shirt with a peepal leaf print, grey trousers and carrying a saffron-coloured bag. Upon search, police recovered gold ornaments worth ₹7.08 lakh, ₹1.18 lakh in cash and a Vivo mobile phone valued at ₹5,000.
Police said Raj confessed to committing the three burglaries between the Navrangpura, Gujarat University and Anandnagar police station limits, targeting houses during the day after conducting reconnaissance. He would reportedly conceal his face with a handkerchief while breaking in.
Investigations also revealed his involvement in at least eight previous burglary cases registered in Ahmedabad and Surat between 2016 and 2024.
Police said further interrogation is underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in other undetected property crimes in the city.
