A decomposed body of a 45-year-old man was found inside a locked residential house in Ahmedabad’s Vatva area, with his hands, legs and mouth tied, prompting police to register a murder case and launch an investigation.

The incident came to light at Satej Homes, near Gamdi Road in Vatva, where residents complained of foul smell emanating from House No.13.

According to the police, neighbours alerted the property owner after noticing the stench coming from the locked premises. The owner’s son later reached the house and found it locked from outside. He reportedly tried contacting all four tenants living in the house, but only one answered the phone and claimed that he had been out of Ahmedabad for the past month and was no longer staying at the property.

Suspicious of the circumstances, the owner’s son informed a property broker. The following day, both visited the house and opened the lock, only to discover a decomposed body lying on a bed inside one of the rooms.

Police said the deceased’s hands and legs had been tied with nylon rope, while a cloth had been stuffed into his mouth and tied around his face, indicating that he may have been restrained before being killed.

On receiving information, a team from Vatva Police Station rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Preliminary investigation has identified the deceased as Imran Sabbir Singha, a native of Kosamba village in Bharuch district.

Police officials said all four tenants who had been residing in the house are currently untraceable and are believed to have vacated the premises abruptly. Efforts are under way to trace them and ascertain their role in the alleged murder.

Vatva police have registered a case of murder and further investigation is in progress.
