Surat Dead body exchanged in SMIMER

A serious error occurred at SMIMER (Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research) Hospital in Surat, causing distress as the body of a 47-year-old woman was mistakenly swapped with another deceased person on Mar 27.

The incident unfolded as such that the family of the deceased woman, Manisha Barot, a resident of Katargam who died in an accident, reached the hospital to take her body home.

To their dismay, they discovered a different body in the post-mortem room, belonging to someone else who had also passed away in an accident.

The mix-up transpired when the other body arrived at the post-mortem room, which was placed next to Manisha’s body.

Consequently, Manisha’s body was mistakenly handed over to another family, who were headed to their native place in Kadodara.

Over this, SMIMER authorities were immediately prompted, and Manisha’s kin were outraged over this blunder.

Hospital authorities recalled Manisha’s body back from the family, who mistook it to be their kin and shifted it to SMIMER’s post-mortem room.

Later, Manisha’s relatives were handed over the body.
