Dahod to build 100 libraries in Adivasi areas for children

The Dahod district panchayat office has sent letters to all taluka development officers, asking them to provide land details for setting up modern libraries in every village. To strengthen education in Dahod district, which currently faces a shortage of about 2,700 teachers, the district panchayat has initiated a major step.
For establishing libraries in Dahod, the authorities have sought information about 2,000 sq ft of government wasteland or common village land within gram panchayat limits. In the initial plan, about 100 villages have been selected for library construction.
Panchayats have been instructed to submit detailed information, including land size, survey/property number, land type (government wasteland or village common land), and other necessary remarks in a prescribed format.
Dahod District Development Officer Santosh Lodha said that under the state government’s Tribal Sub-Plan, the process has already begun to build 100 libraries. He further stated that the state government has allocated nearly ₹25 crore for the project. To ensure safety and electricity access, these libraries will primarily be built within the premises of primary schools located in villages.
He also added that in larger villages with bigger schools, libraries will be prioritised in the first phase. Each library will be equipped with books and furniture, enabling students preparing for competitive exams such as GPSC and UPSC to study there. Each facility will have the capacity to seat around 100 readers at a time.
The official noted that the groundwork would begin within a week, after which construction of the first 100 libraries would commence.
