A cabinet meeting of the state government decided on Aug 23 that the diploma-to-degree programme (D to D) will have a common entrance test for the students, replacing the current merit-based system used for admissions.

With this, students who want lateral entry to the diploma programmes in the second year, will have to appear for the test.

According to the spokesperson for the state government, “With the increasing number of boards and universities, the allotment of the seats for the admission committee was getting complicated by the day.”

According to him, it was also tough to streamline every university’s merit scale into one standard.

To mitigate this discrepancy, confusion, and dissatisfaction of the candidates with the merit system, this step was taken. According to the spokesperson, this will democratise the admission process by bringing every candidate on the same platform.

The D to D common entrance test, for lateral admission of the candidate from diploma to the second year of a degree program, will be taken from 2024, the state government decided. The registration for the same will begin from Feb 2024.

ACPC’s Diploma to Degree programmes

The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) allows D to D admissions to 2nd year or 3rd semester of degree engineering (BE/B Tech, ME/M Tech), 2nd year or 3rd semester of degree pharmacy (B Pharma/M Pharma), and MBA/MCA lateral entry (D toD), in government and Grant-in-Aid colleges and unaided colleges of Gujarat.
