A cyclonic system is expected to develop over the Arabian Sea, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), raising concerns of potential heavy rainfall and strong winds across Gujarat. Over the past week, the state has already witnessed unseasonal showers, and the IMD now predicts storm activity and scattered rainfall over the next seven days.

While the cyclone’s exact path remains uncertain, the IMD warns that if the system shifts toward Gujarat, the state could face intense rain and gusty winds. Even if it veers away, South Gujarat and the Saurashtra region are still likely to experience significant rainfall around May 22.

Today’s forecast: Light to moderate rain in Gujarat

For May 17 and 18, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder in several Gujarat districts.

Despite the rainfall, no major drop in temperature is expected.

Cyclone impact window: May 20–24

Ambalal Patel has projected a major shift in national weather patterns from May 20 onward, driven by the emerging cyclonic system. Patel warns that Mumbai and surrounding coastal areas may also face intense rainfall, while Gujarat could be directly impacted between May 20 and May 24.
