Cybercrime accused escapes Bengaluru Police custody in Ahmedabad

In a dramatic turn of events, a cybercrime accused brought to Ahmedabad by Bengaluru Police escaped custody in broad daylight from Ghuma, on Wednesday. The accused, Ashish Ravindranathan (34), was being taken for a site investigation when he fled with the help of an accomplice in a white four-wheeler.
As per the complaint filed by Police Sub-Inspector Pravina S, posted at the Cyber Crime Police Station, South East Division, Bengaluru, Ashish had been remanded to police custody from April 24 to May 2 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Bengaluru. The accused is linked to over 60 cybercrime cases in Karnataka under sections of the IT Act and IPC, including fraud and cheating.
The accused was brought to Ahmedabad as part of the ongoing investigation to verify addresses and gather evidence. On May 1, he was taken to his residence at Vibhusha Bungalows in Ghuma. The house was locked, and the team was awaiting the arrival of his brother with a key. During this time, Ashish was in the custody of Head Constable Nagesha M.
Around 12:30 pm, while standing outside the residence, Ashish allegedly pushed the constable, broke free, and sprinted towards a white four-wheeler parked nearby. Despite attempts by the officers to stop him, the driver, who was allegedly waiting for the accused, sped off with him towards Ghuma village.
Police personnel gave chase in a rickshaw and searched various locations, including Ashish’s previous address in Skycity, Shela, but could not trace him. A formal complaint has now been lodged at Bopal police station against the unidentified driver who facilitated the escape, and a search has started for the escaped accused and the driver. Police teams are scanning CCTV footage and verifying potential hideouts across the city.
