Customs seizes 500 kg cannabis concealed in clock box at Ahmedabad foreign post office

The Customs department has seized over 500 grams of cannabis concealed in a parcel received from Thailand at the foreign post office in Ahmedabad. According to officials, the contraband was hidden inside boxes labelled as containing a wristwatch and dry fruits.
Based on specific intelligence regarding the possible smuggling of narcotics through international parcels, the Customs team intercepted two suspicious packages that had arrived from Thailand. Upon opening the boxes, officers discovered a green, leafy substance suspected to be hybrid cannabis.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the narcotics had been ingeniously packed to avoid detection—one inside a clock case and another alongside dry fruit packets. The substance has since been seized and sealed, and further analysis is underway to confirm its composition and potency.
Sources said this is not the first instance of narcotics being smuggled into Gujarat via international parcels. In the past, multiple agencies have conducted raids and recovered narcotic substances from foreign parcels. However, this latest case adds to concerns over the increasing use of postal and courier services for cross-border drug trafficking.

Customs authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the origin and intended recipient of the parcels. The involvement of any syndicate or individual in India is also being probed, and officials are coordinating with international counterparts to trace the sender.

The seizure highlights a growing trend of sophisticated concealment techniques being adopted by traffickers, even as enforcement agencies tighten checks at international gateways.
