Customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad have seized 20.366 kg of marijuana worth ₹20.4 crore from an Indian passenger who arrived from Bangkok and arrested him under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

According to officials, the seizure was made during the intervening night of May 20 and 21 following specific intelligence inputs received from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and passenger profiling conducted by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at the airport.

The passenger, a resident of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, had arrived in Ahmedabad on Thai Airways flight TG-343 from Bangkok.

During a detailed examination of the passenger’s baggage, Customs officers recovered 19 vacuum-sealed packets containing a green dried plant-like substance concealed inside a trolley bag. Preliminary testing confirmed the substance to be marijuana (cannabis).

Officials said the total quantity of the seized contraband was 20.366 kg, which was subsequently confiscated under the NDPS Act.

The passenger was taken into custody and formally arrested in connection with the case. Authorities said the matter has now been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation into the source and intended destination of the narcotic consignment.
