Customer alleges severe hygiene lapse at Mocha restaurant on CG Road, AMC imposes ₹25,000 penalty

A family dinner at Mocha Restaurant on C G Road on November 18 turned into an alarming experience after a customer alleged that a basket of rotis served at their table contained several insects, prompting a complaint to the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
According to the complainant, Dushyant Rathod, he had visited the restaurant with his family when he placed a repeat order for rotis. The waiter allegedly brought the rotis in a bamboo basket which, upon being placed on the table, released multiple insects crawling out onto the dining surface.
Rathod stated that he immediately called the restaurant manager and raised concerns about what he described as a “serious lapse in hygiene” at a well-known, premium establishment. However, he alleged that instead of acknowledging the issue, the manager responded dismissively, merely offering to replace the basket and failing to provide a proper explanation or apology.
The complainant further claimed that when he asked for the bill, the restaurant staff neither issued one nor allowed him to inspect the kitchen, insisting that customers were not permitted inside. Rathod added that even when a senior staff member later contacted him, no satisfactory clarification or assurance was provided.
Following the complaint registered with AMC, the civic body forwarded the matter to the concerned department. AMC officials confirmed that a team inspected the restaurant on Wednesday.
An AMC health officer who visited the premises yesterday stated that a formal notice had been issued to the restaurant, a statutory penalty of ₹25,000 was imposed, and food samples were collected for further testing as part of the inquiry.
AMC officials said the matter is under review and necessary action will be taken based on the lab results and the establishment’s compliance with hygiene norms.
