Crowd storms Danilimda police station after youth held for harassing woman in Ahmedabad

A mob allegedly stormed the Danilimda Police Station late on Wednesday night and assaulted a youth who had been detained for allegedly harassing a woman near Gita Mandir in Ahmedabad, along with a home guard jawan.
According to the complaint filed by Imran Khan Makrani, a traffic police personnel, around 100 people, including one Shahil Syed, gathered outside the police station late at night and created a disturbance.
Police said the incident began when a youth from the Behrampura area, allegedly in an inebriated state, was seen stopping women on the road near Gita Mandir, arguing with them and harassing them. Locals reportedly confronted and hit him.
At that time, the complainant was passing through the area in a police vehicle. He intervened, rescued the accused from the crowd and brought him to the Danilimda police station.
However, shortly after, a mob of around 100 people allegedly reached the police station, surrounded the premises and shouted slogans demanding that the accused be handed over. The crowd allegedly forced its way in, assaulted the youth inside the police station and also attacked a home guard jawan who attempted to shield him.
Following the incident, the Danilimda police registered a case of rioting and attempt to murder against the mob. Four persons have been arrested so far, and further investigation is underway, officials said.
