Crime Branch arrests 22-year-old with pistol, cartridges in Ahmedabad

The Ahmedabad city Crime Branch has arrested a 22-year-old man and recovered a country-made pistol and live cartridges from his possession on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Abdulsajid Abdulrazak Sheikh, was arrested from the Raikhad area, following inputs about his involvement in violent crimes and illegal possession of firearms.

According to police, Sheikh, a resident of Jamil Park in Nadiad and Anwarnagar in Vatva, was found carrying a country-made pistol and two live cartridges. The seized firearm has been valued at ₹10,000, while the cartridges are estimated to be worth ₹200, taking the total value of the recovered items to ₹10,200.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly told police that he had procured the weapon and ammunition from Agra in Uttar Pradesh due to personal enmity with members of the Imran alias Gamdia gang.

A case has been registered against Sheikh at the Crime Branch police station under sections of the Arms Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the weapon and possible links to other criminal activities.

Police records show that the accused has a criminal history. He was earlier booked in a Vatva Police Station case in 2021 under sections relating to attempted murder, criminal intimidation and offences under the Arms Act. He was also involved in a theft case registered the same year and a Gujarat Police Act case in 2023. Additionally, he had been detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) in 2022.

Crime Branch officials said the arrest and seizure were part of ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of illegal weapons in the city and prevent violent crime.
