CBI court denies bail

A special CBI court has rejected the regular bail plea of Dixit Patel, the accused principal-trustee of Jay Jalaram School in Godhra, who was arrested by the CBI concerning the NEET paper leak scam.

The court, considering the gravity of the crime, outrightly denied bail to the accused.

The court noted, “This is a serious crime under investigation, and therefore, it would not be appropriate to grant bail to the accused at this stage.”

After the NEET paper leak scam surfaced, a complaint was filed against the accused at the Godhra police station. Subsequently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation, added corruption charges, and arrested Patel along with other accomplices.

In response to the accused’s regular bail application, the CBI informed the court, “Documents related to the irregularities in the examination have been seized from other witnesses in this entire scam. The probe surrounding these documents and witnesses related to the scam is ongoing.”

During the investigation, it was also found that the accused was in contact with suspects from other states in the NEET scandal.

“The accused is a principal and trustee and has an active role in the crime. The interrogations conducted by the CBI have unravelled important facts in this case, and he is well cognisant of this. There is a strong possibility that he would influence the witnesses or destroy the evidence once released. Therefore, if he is released on bail, it is likely to adversely affect the investigation,” the CBI argued.

The court accepted these arguments and rejected the accused’s bail.
