An Ahmedabad-based couple has been involved in a massive fraud, extorting ₹3.91 cr from six individuals. Jaimin Patel, the accused, set up fictitious companies, offering lucrative investment opportunities for film and short film production. By promising a 10% return on investment and profit, Patel managed to deceive several victims, including an individual named Dr Dhaval Patel.
The Vastrapur police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the case and as the cops delve deeper, newer developments have come to the fore.
Luring Dr Patel into investing
A resident of Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda area, Dr Dhaval Patel works as an orthopaedic surgeon. A year and a half ago, he met Jaimin Patel and his wife, Ankita. They would often meet and eventually became friends. In Oct 2022, Jaimin called Dr Patel to his office at a mall near Sattadhar cross roads, where he informed Dr Patel about his new venture called Singing Sparrow Films, Jaimin Films, and On Creation, under which he planned to produce urban Gujarati films.
Jaimin’s proposal to Dr Patel was a partnership in the ventures, where the latter would get 10% profit or else compensation against his investment. He also promised a return on the investment within ten months. As Jaimin lured Dr Patel so rigorously to invest, the latter used his savings, borrowed from relatives, and gave ₹75 lakh. Against this amount, Jaimin gave a cheque of ₹50 lakh as security.
The couple tricked many into investing in their showbiz
Eventually, Dr Patel asked Jaimin for the money he owed the former after the promised time. However, he returned only ₹25 lakh, and when asked for the remaining amount, Ankita threatened to commit suicide and even sent a suicide note to him through WhatsApp. Meanwhile, on the other side Jaimin had filed a missing report for his wife at the Sola High Court police station.
Dr Patel later found out that the notorious couple had taken money from many people including ₹80 lakh from an individual named Kishan Patel, ₹1.56 cr from Vishal Gunjal, ₹20 lakh from Sunil Gupta, ₹55 lakh from Raju Samaria, and ₹30 lakh from Shaileshbhai Rajput in the name of investment for film production by creating this fake film production firm. He promised them also of getting significant returns by investing in his film company. A total fraud of ₹3.91 cr was carried out by the duo. Vastrapur police have registered a case and started an investigation into this matter.
