Corrupted babus? Former BJP MP exposes scam, only 30 paise work Done for every rupee on roads

As the Gujarat government boasts of allocating thousands of crores in grants to develop urban and rural roads, former BJP MP Naran Kachhadia has alleged massive corruption in road construction projects.
Kachhadia claimed that although records show that one rupee is spent, the actual work done is worth only 30 paise. “This itself shows the scale of misappropriation,” he said, pointing to widespread collusion between corrupt politicians and contractors.
With heavy rains washing away roads across the state, citizens are suffering due to pothole-ridden highways. Kachhadia further said the condition is so bad that people are now forced to prefer rail travel over roads. He said that traveling from Amreli to Surat now takes as long as 18 hours whereas the distance merely takes 8 hours to complete the trip.
He added that earlier BJP leaders used to target the Congress, alleging that out of every rupee sent by the centre, only 20 paise reached the people. “Now the tables have turned,” Kachhadia said, alleging that under the BJP government, one rupee is shown as spent on roads, but only 30 paise’ worth of work is actually delivered meaning 70 paise is siphoned off.
