Cop suspended for arriving drunk during group clash in Amreli’s Saldi village

A police officer was found drunk at the scene of a violent group clash in Saldi village near Liliya in Amreli district on Diwali day.
The cop, identified as Siddhrajsinh Jadeja, allegedly arrived at the village under the influence of alcohol while on duty, sparking outrage among locals.
As per reports, as tempers flared between two groups, villagers noticed that the police officer appeared intoxicated.
When confronted, the officer reportedly fled from the spot. Locals captured the incident on their mobile phones, and a video showing the officer running away in a drunken state quickly went viral on social media.
After the video surfaced, Amreli Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Kharat suspended Jadeja with immediate effect.
The incident has raised serious questions about discipline and professionalism within the police force.
The clash in Saldi village reportedly stemmed from long-standing tensions related to the upcoming Gram Panchayat elections.
The dispute escalated into a violent confrontation between two groups, leaving around 15 people injured on the night of Diwali. The injured were rushed to Amreli Civil Hospital for treatment. Both sides have been accused of attacking each other with pipes and sticks.
Following the violence, large crowds gathered outside the Liliya Police Station late at night, further heightening tensions.
Police reinforcements from Amreli were dispatched to the area, and senior officers intervened to calm both groups and restore order.
Currently, a heavy police presence has been deployed in the village to maintain peace, and an in-depth investigation into the incident is underway.
