The Congress has protested in Ahmedabad’s Bapunagar with serious allegations of irregularities. It came to light that ballot papers were allegedly stamped in the absence of the election officer at the Bapunagar Home Guard office.

This has heated up the political climate in Gujarat, even before the local body elections. The voting through ballot papers was organized for Home Guard jawans serving in the local body elections. Jawans from Bapunagar, Saraspur and Gomtipur were asked to vote after 5 pm.

However, when Congress candidate Nagji Desai reached there with his supporters late in the evening, shocking details came to light. The candidate claimed that no election officer was present at the polling station. The ballot papers were allegedly found in open covers without any security.

The Congress alleges that votes were cast in the name of the Home Guard personnel in their absence. Following this incident, Nagji Desai and his supporters reportedly protested outside the Home Guard office by chanting Ramdhun.

The Congress alleged that democracy is being torn apart in this way amidst the claim of making the elections fair. A written report has been submitted to the State Election Commission along with evidence regarding the matter.

Earlier, there were complaints about BJP office bearers who are serving in the Home Guard to be kept away from election-related activities. However, in the absence of any concrete action, the absentee voting has now come under suspicion.
