As Gujarat is all set to enter into Lok Sabha elections in phase 3 with 26 seats on May 7, the streak of resignations from the Congress prevails.

Gujarat Congress leader Rohan Gupta has resigned today and sent his resignation to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Bimal Shah, former state minister of transport (independent charge) and information technology said that Gupta was given a big responsibility by the Congress at a young age and his decision to resign is wrong. He added that resignation should not be given in such circumstances.

While resigning, Gupta took to his X handle, “ I spent the last three days with my father while he is battling serious health conditions which has really helped me understand his perspective. He narrated the incidences of betrayal and sabotage for the last 40 years and how the leaders got away in spite of their ill doings. The wounds of those incidents have still not healed which I could see in his tears. ”

State co-convener and spokesperson at Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), Hemang Raval said, “Gupta knew that he would have to vacate the seat due to which he had already withdrawn the name. His loyalty was questionable. His leaving the party is not a setback for the Congress. It is not going to change. He was the national social media coordinator at the Congress.”

Gupta withdrew his candidacy from the Ahmedabad (East) Lok Sabha constituency, attributing the decision to his father's deteriorating health on Mar 19.

Who is Rohan Gupta?

The 46-year-old politician, known for his previous role as the chairperson of the party’s social media wing, was a prominent contender for the Ahmedabad (East) parliamentary seat.

The son of seasoned Congress leader Rajkumar Gupta, Rohan Gupta has been a familiar face in the national media, actively representing the Congress on television debates.

The Gupta family, originally from Bhiwani in Haryana, has been active in Gujarat’s political scene for some time now.
