A controversy has arisen over M K University in Patan district. Congress MLA Dr Kirit Patel alleged in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly that a ghost university is operating in the state, not at its approved location, but from a buffalo stable.

In response to a question raised by Dr Patel in the Assembly, the government admitted that it has so far received three complaints in this regard and that “necessary action as per rules is under consideration”.

Slamming the government, Dr Patel said, “The government has admitted that the university in Patan is functioning from a buffalo stable instead of its approved site. But no action was for three years. Universities without proper standards are being approved, and this is ruining the future of students.”

The opposition has raised questions over the government’s negligence in the matter, while the state government maintains that action on the complaints is in progress.
