Congress launches ‘Nasha Mukt Gujarat’ campaign, vows aggressive action against liquor–drug rackets

Gujarat Congress has launched a statewide ‘Nasha Mukt Gujarat’ campaign, stepping up its attack on the state government over the rising menace of liquor and drugs.
As part of the drive, the Pradesh Congress Committee has announced a dedicated helpline 99090 89365, where citizens can give a missed call to register their support. The same number will accept WhatsApp messages for confidential complaints and information related to liquor, drugs, charas or ganja dens.
Congress leaders said that once complaints are received, information will be forwarded to the police, and if the police fail to act, women workers will take to the streets and conduct symbolic raids at such locations. Ahead of the launch, NSUI held a large bike rally covering multiple university campuses in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda alleged that while drinking water is scarce in many parts of the state, liquor is available openly. He said Gujarat has turned into a landing, manufacturing, trading and retailing hub for narcotics, devastating families and leaving young women widowed.
MLA Jignesh Mevani reiterated the party’s demand for a white paper on the alleged ₹72,000-crore drugs issue. He questioned why, if the drugs originate from Pakistan, the government did not insist on curbing narcotics supply as a condition during ceasefire talks. Mevani added that the Chief Minister and Home Minister cannot deny the existence of liquor, gambling or sex-trade hubs even in their own constituencies.
Gujarat Mahila Congress president Gitaben Patel said drug and liquor abuse is directly linked to rising atrocities, sexual violence and exploitation against women. She announced that starting tomorrow, Mahila Congress teams will tour Saurashtra, mobilising women at the district and taluka levels for the anti-addiction campaign.
She warned that if police ignore complaints, women will stage road protests and conduct raids themselves.
