Class VIII student seriously injured in eye during scuffle at Isanpur school, police register case

A Class VIII student sustained a severe eye injury after being struck by a fellow student during a scuffle at a public school in the Isanpur area of Ahmedabad, prompting a police investigation and an administrative probe by education authorities.
According to officials at Narol Police Station, the incident took place on April 20 at a school located near the Narol-Vatva canal. Both the injured student and the accused are minors studying in the same class.
The complaint was lodged by the injured boy’s father, a daily wage labourer residing in the Narol area, who stated that he received a call from his wife informing him that their son had been hit in the eye by another student during school hours. The child was initially taken to a local hospital and later shifted to the civil hospital in Asarwa for specialised treatment.
Police said preliminary inquiries suggest that the incident occurred during a recess break when a verbal altercation broke out between students. The injured boy reportedly intervened in an attempt to separate two classmates, following which one of the students allegedly struck him in the eye in a fit of anger.
“The child sustained a serious injury to his right eye and is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have advised surgery, and his vision prognosis remains uncertain,” a police officer said.
A case has been registered, and statements of teachers, school staff, students and parents are being recorded as part of the investigation. Given that both individuals involved are minors, proceedings will be conducted in accordance with juvenile justice norms, police added.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board has taken cognisance of the incident. Administrative officer L.D. Desai has sought a preliminary report from the school principal, and an inquiry has been assigned to an assistant administrative officer.
“A detailed investigation has been ordered into the circumstances leading to the incident,” an official said, adding that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
Police said further legal action will follow after completion of the inquiry.
