Class 11 student stabbed after dispute over seating at tuition class in Ahmedabad

A 17-year-old Class 11 student was allegedly stabbed by a fellow student following an argument over seating arrangements at a tuition class in the Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon. The injured teenager is currently undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Asarwa, police said.
As per a complaint filed at Bapunagar Police Station, the victim, identified as Janil Miteshbhai Jate Sharma (17), attends Commerce Expert Tuition Classes near Pratik Vegetable Market in Bapunagar.
Police said the incident stemmed from a dispute between the complainant and another Class 11 student, a minor, who also studies at the same school and attends the same tuition classes. The two students had reportedly argued earlier about seating arrangements in the tuition classroom.
In his complaint, the victim stated that on March 15, he had gone to attend the tuition class when the accused arrived. As there was no space available in the room, Sharma asked him to sit in another classroom, which led to a heated argument and exchange of abuses.
Later in the afternoon, around 1.15 pm, Sharma was standing near Bhomiya Dairy close to Tulshi Flats in the Hirawadi locality of Bapunagar when the accused allegedly confronted him again. As per the complaint, the accused suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Sharma on the left side of his abdomen before fleeing the spot.
The victim raised an alarm following the attack, after which his friend Krishna Bhavsar rushed him to Civil Hospital in an autorickshaw, where he is currently receiving treatment. Doctors said the teenager was conscious when admitted.
Police officials said a formal complaint has been registered against the accused student, who is currently absconding. Investigators are also trying to determine how the accused managed to obtain the knife.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Krunal Desai of the I Division confirmed that the incident occurred following a dispute between two students attending the same tuition classes. “The victim has lodged a complaint and a case has been registered. Further investigation is under way,” Desai said.
Police added that preliminary inquiries suggest the two students had argued at the tuition class a day earlier as well. Authorities are questioning people associated with the tuition centre as part of the investigation.
