Chhotaudepur’s Kavant receives highest rainfall among 64 talukas, more showers predicted

A short spell of rainfall lashed several parts of Gujarat on Thursday, with Chhotaudepur recording the highest.
According to data from the State Emergency Operation Centre, Chhotaudepur’s Kavant taluka received 75 mm rainfall, the highest in the state during the 6 am to 2 pm.

The state has recorded an average rainfall of over 85% as of August 28, 2025. Among the regions, South Gujarat and North Gujarat have received the highest rainfall at 89%, followed by Kutch at 85.14%, Saurashtra at 83.84 %, and East-Central Gujarat at 81.03%, according to the list issued by the SEOC.
The report further states that, as a result of the widespread rains, the lifeline of the state—Sardar Sarovar Dam—is currently 79.03% full.
Apart from Sardar Sarovar, out of the state’s 206 dams, 75 are filled to 100% capacity, while 70 dams are between 70 to 100% full, 25 dams between 50 to 70%, 20 dams between 25 to 50%, and 16 dams are below 25% capacity. At present, 100 dams are on high alert, 28 on alert, and 17 on warning alert status.
Since the beginning of the current monsoon season, from June 1, 2025, till date, a total of 5,311 citizens have been relocated and 1,005 people stranded in water have been rescued. Thanks to the efficient planning of the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), very few bus trips had to be cancelled, and instead, over 40,000 trips were completed across more than 14,000 routes, ensuring smooth transportation services for citizens.
The India Meteorological Department has also advised the fishermen of Gujarat not to venture into the sea from August 28 to August 31.
