A controversy has erupted in Chhotaudepur after a video showing BJP MP Jashu Rathwa, his son Sangramsinh Rathwa, and local taluka president Ramesh Rathwa allegedly brandishing firearms in public went viral on social media. Following the backlash, police registered a case against the trio for allegedly violating official notifications related to displaying weapons in public, as per reports.

Reacting to the controversy, Jashu Rathwa reportedly addressed the issue while visiting the BJP office ‘Kamalam’ in Rajpipla. He said they had “forgotten the law in the excitement of victory” and carried the gun during celebrations.

The MP stated that it has long been a tradition in tribal communities to celebrate joyous occasions with traditional items such as sticks, bows and arrows. He reportedly said the incident occurred during victory celebrations and there was no intention to threaten or intimidate anyone.

Defending himself and his family, Rathwa said neither he nor his relatives had any wrongful intent in carrying weapons publicly and maintained that the act was ‘out of excitement’ following the victory celebrations. He also added that they would cooperate with the legal process and accept whatever action is taken under the law.

The viral video triggered criticism online, with many questioning the public display of firearms by elected representatives holding constitutional positions. Police have launched further investigation into the matter.
