Chennai woman techie held for bomb threat emails to schools, hospitals, stadiums in Gujarat, outside

In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Branch of Ahmedabad city has arrested a woman from Chennai for allegedly sending a series of emails threatening to bomb educational institutions, hospitals and public stadiums across Gujarat and other states.
The accused, identified as Rene Joshilda, daughter of Goldwyn Joseph Antony Gyanprakasham, was taken into custody from her residence in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, after investigators traced the origin of the threatening emails through detailed technical surveillance and digital forensics.
According to police officials, Josilda, who has been working as a senior consultant at Deloitte USI in Chennai since 2022, used multiple virtual private networks (VPNs), fake email IDs and the dark web to mask her identity and location. She allegedly sent over 21 emails from anonymous accounts threatening to bomb prominent locations, including Geneva Liberal School in Sarkhej, Divya Jyot School in Bopal, BJ Medical College in Asarwa, and the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.
The probe was launched after one such email was received on June 3, 2025, around 10.58 am, by Geneva Liberal School from an ID named divijprabhakara0@gmail.com
divijprabhakara0@gmail.com.
The mail read—
"Police is sleeping. They cannot do anything. They don't know how to investigate properly. Only if children die, police will become active. We are going to blast the bomb in your school to bring to police attention about the rapist who raped the girl in Lemon Tree Hotel in Hyderabad in 2023."
Alarmed by the content, the school’s representative, Vishnubhai Yamanbhai Khakhdiya, lodged a formal complaint. A case was subsequently registered at the Sarkhej post office police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
According to senior officers including Joint Commissioner of Police Sharad Singhal, DCP Dr Lavina Sinha, DCP Ajit Rajian and ACP Hardik Makdiya, the cyber cell and Crime branch team conducted an in-depth analysis of digital footprints and communication patterns. The breakthrough came when investigators identified links to Josilda’s internet activity and her use of spoofed accounts.
"She created multiple fake IDs and social media profiles to defame an acquaintance and also to project a false narrative through terror threats," said JCP crime branch Sharad Singhal. "Her objective appears to have been personal revenge and psychological harassment."
Among the emails retrieved were messages allegedly sent under names such as pakistanjkweb@gmail.com pakistanjkweb@gmail.com, ipakistanwar@gmail.com, ipakistanwar@gmail.com, and others. The messages included graphic threats like:
"Bomb successfully planted in Narendra Modi Stadium. Save the stadium if you can.”
“India has 400 trained military and army involved in this mission for Operation Sindhoor.”
“Police in India cannot do anything. We will keep giving you all the updates.”
Investigators revealed that Josilda was highly skilled in cyber tools and social engineering, having studied electrical engineering prior to her career in IT. She reportedly operated alone and had been sending such emails for over a year.
Police are now examining her devices for further evidence and to determine if there are any accomplices. A total of 21 emails have been documented so far, each sent on various dates from different email accounts to different locations in Ahmedabad.
Cyber experts believe this case highlights the growing misuse of technology by individuals with personal vendettas, and the need for stricter cyber monitoring mechanisms.
The accused remains in police custody and further interrogation is underway.
