Road accidents on national highways and expressways are becoming a common occurrence. Days after a truck carrying oxygen cylinders caught fire near Changodar near Ahmedabad, a massive fire broke out on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Highway in Gujarat's Valsad on Feb 21.

At around 5.30 p.m., on the Valsad stretch of NH 48 near Vaghaldhara, a chemical tanker flipped, which led to the fire, further setting three cars ablaze.

A Maruti van on fire also rammed into a Swift car parked on the sideways.

The Valsad municipality fire brigade rushed to the spot after getting information about the accident.

Traffic on both sides of a stretch at NH48 was stopped, which led to heavy congestion.

After the accident, an ambulance and the nearest Dungri police reached the spot and cleared the onlookers standing on the highway.

The fire was put out, and two dead bodies were recovered that are believed to be those of the tanker driver and cleaner. However, the dead bodies have yet to be identified.

Notably, in a major road safety lapse on the Bavla-Changodar stretch of NH47, a truck carrying oxygen cylinders caught fire on the evening of Jan 29.
