Check traffic restrictions around Kankaria Lake for Carnival from Dec 25 to 31

In view of the Kankaria Carnival from December 25 to 31, the Ahmedabad City Police have imposed a series of traffic restrictions to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety during the event.

Areas falling under Kagadapith and Maninagar police station limits around Kankaria Lake have been declared as ‘No Parking’, ‘No Stopping’ and ‘No U-Turn’ zones during the festival.

No parking around Kankaria Lake

No vehicles other than two-wheelers will be allowed to stop on the circular route starting from Kankaria Chowki, via Railway Yard, Khokhra Bridge, Dedki Garden, Siddhi Vinayak Hospital crossroads, Machhi Pir crossroads, Pushpakunj Circle, Apsara Cinema crossroads, Football crossroads, Lohana Mahajanwadi and back to Kankaria Chowki. 

Parking of vehicles will be permitted only at designated parking spots, and parking at any other location will be prohibited.

No U-turn zone declared

Despite the circular road around Kankaria Lake being a two-lane road, no U-turns will be permitted at any point along the stretch. The entire area around the lake has been declared a ‘No U-Turn’ zone.

Restrictions on heavy and passenger vehicles

In addition, all types of goods vehicles and passenger vehicles whose movement in the city is otherwise restricted under existing notifications will not be allowed to ply on certain routes leading to Kankaria between 8 am and 1 am. The restricted routes include:

Main road from Danilimda crossroads via Shah Alam towards Kankaria

Main road from Chandola Police Chowki crossroads via Shah Alam towards Kankaria

Road from Maninagar railway station via Maninagar crossroads and Rambagh crossroads towards Kankaria

Road from Kagadapith T-point via Vanijya Bhavan towards Kankaria

Main road from Raipur Darwaza via Big Bazaar and Parsi Agiary crossroads towards Kankaria

Road from Guruji Bridge via Avkar Hall crossroads, Hirabhai Tower and Bhairavnath crossroads towards Kankaria

Exemptions and enforcement

The orders have been issued by Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G S Malik.

Vehicles associated with the Carnival, government vehicles on duty, fire brigade and ambulance services, as well as vehicles engaged in emergency situations, have been exempted from these restrictions.

The order will remain in force from December 25 to 31.
