The investigation into the deaths of two minor sisters in Chandkheda continues to hinge on crucial testimonies, with police stating that a key woman witness has not yet been able to provide a detailed account owing to her fragile health condition.

The Chandkheda Police Inspector said that the woman was questioned late on Friday night, but her medical condition did not permit sustained or intensive interrogation. “We spoke to her briefly, but given her condition, we could not question her rigorously. At present, she has only stated that she was being kept properly. Beyond this, we have not received any substantial update from her side,” the officer said.

Police further confirmed that the woman’s husband and in-laws, who had been brought in for questioning, were allowed to leave the police station late at night. Officials emphasised that no arrests have been made so far due to the absence of concrete evidence. “Until we have proper evidence, we cannot proceed with arrests. The investigation is ongoing, and we are examining all possible angles,” the officer added.

In parallel, a team from the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has been conducting a separate line of inquiry, focusing on the scientific and technical aspects of the case. Crime Branch officials said that during the questioning of the grandparents, no suspicious activity had emerged so far. However, they clarified that this did not amount to a clean chit. “They remain under watch as part of the ongoing investigation,” an senior official said.

Officials further noted that they are awaiting scientific evidence to bridge critical gaps and establish missing links in the case.

Regarding the recording of the parents’ formal statements, police said the father was discharged from hospital on Friday but continues to be physically weak. “We will wait for his full recovery before proceeding with his statement, as any premature questioning could affect the investigation,” an officer said.

The mother, meanwhile, remains admitted to hospital, and officials indicated that her statement would only be recorded once her condition stabilises.

The case, which has sparked concern in the locality, remains under close scrutiny as investigators await clearer testimonies and forensic findings to piece together the sequence of events leading to the sisters’ deaths.
