The mysterious deaths of two minor girls in Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda area have taken a decisive turn, with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) detecting the presence of a toxic chemical in preliminary findings, raising strong suspicion of poisoning.

The case, which initially drew attention after the children reportedly fell ill following the consumption of dosa batter, is now being treated as a suspected case of deliberate or accidental poisoning, police officials said.

According to Senior Crime Branch officials, the FSL’s primary report has confirmed traces of a poisonous substance in samples collected during the probe. While the exact nature and source of the chemical are yet to be conclusively established, officials indicated that the findings significantly weaken the earlier theory of food contamination alone being responsible for the deaths.

“The preliminary forensic analysis suggests the presence of a toxic chemical, which points towards poisoning as the likely cause of death,” a senior police officer said, adding that further detailed reports are awaited to determine the composition and origin of the substance.

The two girls had allegedly consumed food prepared from dosa batter shortly before they developed severe symptoms. They were rushed for medical attention but could not be saved. The incident had initially triggered concerns over possible food poisoning; however, inconsistencies in the sequence of events led investigators to widen the scope of the probe.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased children have come under the scanner of the investigating agencies. Police sources said that certain aspects of their statements and surrounding circumstances have raised suspicion, prompting closer scrutiny.

“The role of family members, including the parents, is being examined as part of the investigation. No conclusions have been drawn yet, but all angles are being explored,” an official said.

The Crime Branch has now joined the investigation to assist local police, signalling the seriousness and complexity of the case. Officers are said to be analysing forensic evidence, medical reports, and witness statements to piece together the events leading up to the deaths.

Authorities are also looking into whether the toxic substance was introduced into the food deliberately or if it was the result of contamination from an external source.

Meanwhile, police have urged the public to refrain from speculation, stating that definitive conclusions will be drawn only after comprehensive forensic and chemical analysis reports are received.
