Chandkheda sisters’ deaths: Family members detained, father grilled for hours, arrest likely soon

The investigation into the deaths of two minor girls in Chandkheda, allegedly after consuming dosa batter, intensified late on Friday, with multiple family members being brought to the police station and the father subjected to prolonged questioning by senior officials.
Police sources said the deceased children’s grandfather, a woman relative who seems to be aunt, and two other family members were made to sit at the Chandkheda Police Station as part of the ongoing inquiry. Meanwhile, the children’s father was questioned for over an hour by a team comprising the Police Inspector (PI), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and other officials.
Officials indicated that the sustained interrogation suggests the probe is in its final stages, with the possibility of a formal arrest of the accused at any time. Investigators are also awaiting the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, which is expected to be released by Saturday morning or afternoon and is likely to play a crucial role in the case.
In a parallel development, the father was earlier questioned for nearly one-and-a-half hours by senior officials. The police also recorded statements of the deceased girls’ aunts, who had travelled from Australia and Nigeria, in the presence of senior officers.
A police team has since been dispatched to the hospital to record the statement of the children’s mother, who remains under medical supervision. Sources said she is likely to be discharged on Saturday morning, following which her questioning is expected to form a key part of the investigation.
With multiple rounds of interrogation under way and crucial forensic inputs awaited, police officials suggested that decisive action in the case could follow shortly.
