Chandkheda police arrest two for AC compressor theft

Chandkheda police have arrested two men for allegedly stealing an air-conditioner compressor from a commercial establishment in the Chandkheda area of Ahmedabad city and recovered stolen property along with a motorcycle used in the crime, officials said on Sunday.

A surveillance team led by Police Inspector H M Ahir was on patrol when they received specific information that two persons who had stolen an AC compressor from the Chandkheda Highway Mall were passing through Chandkheda crossroads on a black motorcycle with a blue-striped number plate, carrying the stolen equipment.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police intercepted the suspects and detained them for questioning. During interrogation, the duo allegedly confessed to the theft, following which they were formally arrested.

The accused have been identified as Ravindra alias Ravi (27), a labourer residing in Kanyadan Nagar near Visat Mata Road, Chandkheda, and Ritvik alias Rahul (27), a labourer residing in Ramapirno Tekro, Juna Vadaj. 

Police recovered spare parts of an AC compressor, including the outdoor unit body, fan, motor, circuit and outer coil, collectively valued at ₹30,000. A motorcycle without a registration number plate, believed to have been used in the crime, was also seized. The two-wheeler, bearing specific chassis and engine numbers, has been estimated to be worth around ₹15,000.

A case has been registered at Chandkheda Police Station under Section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is under way to ascertain whether the accused were involved in similar thefts in the area.
