Chaitar Vasava Withdraws Parole Plea After Gujarat High Court Refuses to Convert Application

Chaitar Vasava has withdrawn his parole plea from the Gujarat High Court after the court refused to allow the application to be converted into bail plea, leaving the jailed MLA with limited options.

Vasava, who is currently lodged in Vadodara Central Jail, had approached the High Court seeking parole. During the proceedings, a request was made to convert the parole application into a bail application, but the court did not permit the change.

Following the court's refusal, Vasava withdrew the parole plea.

Seven-Year Jail Term in Forest Worker Assault Case

The latest development comes against the backdrop of a criminal case in which Vasava, his wife Shakuntala Vasava and nine others were sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.

The sentence was pronounced by the Narmada Sessions Court at Rajpipla on June 23, 2026, in connection with an October-November 2023 incident involving a forest department employee.

The case included allegations of attacking a forest worker, obstructing government officials in the discharge of their duties, firing in the air and extortion.

Vasava challenged the Sessions Court verdict before the Gujarat High Court, seeking a stay on the sentence and bail.

High Court Had Earlier Rejected Bail Plea

Vasava filed the appeal and related applications before the High Court on August 3.

During the proceedings, the High Court stressed that the law is supreme and that no individual is above it. The court also observed that granting relief to a public representative in the circumstances could send a wrong message to society.

The High Court subsequently rejected the bail applications filed by Vasava and his personal assistant.

With the sentence continuing to operate, Vasava remains in custody at Vadodara jail.

MLA Position Also Under Pressure

Vasava's continued imprisonment has also created uncertainty over his position as an elected representative.

A stay on the sentence is significant for him because of the implications of the conviction for his position as an MLA. With the High Court refusing bail and the latest parole plea now withdrawn, the legal battle remains unresolved.

The Supreme Court remains an available avenue for further legal proceedings against the conviction and sentence.

Parole Route Also Closes for Now

After the High Court rejected his earlier plea for bail, Vasava turned to parole as another possible route for temporary release.

However, the attempt did not result in relief. The High Court refused to permit the requested conversion of the parole application, following which Vasava withdrew the plea.

The latest development means that Vasava will continue to remain in custody unless he secures relief through another legal proceeding.
