Centre clears appointment of seven new judges to Gujarat High Court

The Union Ministry of Law & Justice on Thursday notified the appointment of seven judicial officers as judges of the Gujarat High Court.
The judicial officers appointed as High Court judges include:
1. Liyakathussain Shamsuddin Pirzada
2. Ramchandra Thakurdas Vachhani
3. Jayesh Lakhanshibhai Odedra
4. Pranav Maheshbhai Raval
5. Mool Chand Tyagi
6. Dipak Mansukhlal Vyas
7. Utkarsh Thakorbhai Desai
“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint (i) Liyakathussain Shamsuddin Pirzada, (ii) Ramchandra Thakurdas Vachhani, (iii) Jayesh Lakhanshibhai Odedra, (iv) Pranav Maheshbhai Raval, (v) Mool Chand Tyagi, (vi) Dipak Mansukhlal Vyas and (vii) Utkarsh Thakorbhai Desai, to be Judges of the Gujarat High Court, in that order of seniority, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices,” read the notification.
According to reports, the decision follows a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on March 19.
Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal shared the information on X.
The Gujarat High Court currently has a total strength of 32 judges, against the sanctioned strength of 52. With the latest appointments, the number of judges will now increase to 39.
