The CCTV cameras and the e-challan process in Ahmedabad will undergo an AI-based software update by Smart City Ahmedabad Development Limited (SCADL) under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), for which the pre-bid meeting will be organised today.

This upgrade will be carried out under the ‘Safe and Secure Ahmedabad (SASA)’ project.

21 different traffic violations will be recognised within seconds using artificial intelligence after this new software upgrade.

AI introduced to issue e-memo more effectively

SCADL has issued a request for proposals from potential bidders for the upgrade of the city’s e-challan system.

The pre-bid meeting for this will be organised today, while the tender bid will  open on Sept 8.

After the system update, a total of 21 traffic violations will be recorded, and analysed, and an e-memo issued within a span of minutes.

AI will be used to detect and penalise the following violations:

1) Red light and stop line violations

2) Anyone not wearing a seat belt or helmet will be fined

3) Talking on phone while driving

4) Driving under influence

5) Driving on the wrong side or spitting on the road

6) Drivers entering the BRTS corridor illegally

7) Parking on the road will be dealt with

8) More than three passengers in an autorickshaw and more than two on a two-wheeler

9) Dark film on glass and fancy number plates

10) Entry on one way roads, and heavy goods vehicles will be monitored

11) Traffic blockers entering the wrong side

12) Pits on the road and stray animals

13) Water-logged roads due to rains will be identified

14) Dumping garbage or debris on the road can also be found

15) Fake or forged number plates can be detected

On top of that, using AI-driven technology, the specifications of the violator (gender, age, body dimensions, etc) will be recognised as well.

Earlier, the 1,695 CCTVs in the city’s junction issued an E-memo against traffic signal jumping and jumping the stop line.

This initiative carried out under the safe and secure Ahmedabad project, will ensure an upper hand for the traffic department in dealing with frequent violations.

Safe and Secure Ahmedabad project’s latest initiative

The Safe and Secure Ahmedabad project was started in 2018.

Under this project, 5,629 CCTV cameras have been installed to assist various city authorities in departments like police surveillance, municipal office surveillance, traffic violations, and surveillance of vehicles entering the designated BRTS corridor.

1,695 of these CCTVs have been installed at 113 out of 130 junctions in the city. 272 CCTVs have been installed on various main roads.

244 CCTVs have been set up in the BRTS corridor while 2,691 cameras have been installed at various municipal offices, zonal and ward offices, urban health centres, municipal schools, and parks.
