The results of the Common Admission Test (CAT), conducted for admission to Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and top business schools across the country, were declared on Wednesday. For the first time, two students from Gujarat have secured a perfect 100 percentile, placing them among the country’s top 12 performers.

In addition, one student from Gujarat scored 99.99 percentile, while two others secured 99.98 percentile. More than 50 students from Ahmedabad alone have scored above the 99 percentile mark. Despite CAT being considered one of the toughest papers in recent years, candidates from Gujarat have delivered an impressive performance.

Over 2.58 lakh candidates appeared for CAT

CAT is conducted every year by a different IIM. This year, IIM Kozhikode conducted the examination on November 30 across 339 centres in 170 cities nationwide. While around 2.95 lakh candidates registered for the exam — a decline of over 10 percent compared to last year — around 2.58 lakh candidates eventually appeared for the test.

CAT results: 12 candidates secure 100 percentile

According to the results released by the CAT nodal authority, 12 candidates across the country have secured a perfect 100 percentile this year, compared to 14 candidates last year. Notably, Gujarat has produced two students with 100 percentile for the first time, whereas no candidate from the state had achieved this feat last year. Delhi recorded the highest number of top scorers, with three candidates securing 100 percentile.

99.99 percentile club sees Gujarat representation

Among the top scorers, 26 candidates across the country secured 99.99 percentile, including one student from Gujarat. Of these 26 candidates, four are women and 22 men, with Haryana accounting for the highest number at five. Similarly, 26 candidates scored 99.98 percentile nationwide, including two students from Gujarat. Uttar Pradesh led this category with seven candidates.

Of the total 2.95 lakh registered candidates this year, 1.10 lakh were women, 1.85 lakh were men, and nine candidates belonged to the transgender category.

Ahmedabad sees strong showing with 50+ students scoring above 99 percentile

Out of the 2.58 lakh candidates who appeared for CAT, 97,000 were women, 1.61 lakh were men, and nine were transgender candidates. Category-wise, 65.32% belonged to the general category, 5.59% to EWS, 18.52% to OBC, 8.35% to SC, 2.22% to ST, and 0.47% to the PwD category.

More than 50 students from Ahmedabad scored above the 99 percentile mark. Ahmedabad-based student Prashansa Shah emerged as the female topper with a score of 99.98 percentile. Meanwhile, a candidate from the PwD category secured an impressive 99.28 percentile.

Non-engineering students dominate CAT toppers list

This year’s CAT results show a clear rise in non-engineering candidates among the top scorers. Among the 12 candidates who secured 100 percentile, only three are from an engineering background, while nine are from non-engineering streams. Similarly, among those scoring 99.99 percentile, 12 are engineers and 14 are non-engineers, while in the 99.98 percentile bracket, eight are engineers and 18 are non-engineers.

The trend highlights a growing diversity in academic backgrounds among India’s top management aspirants.
