Businesswoman alleges assault, blackmail by acquaintance in Ahmedabad

A 35-year-old businesswoman from the Bodakdev area of Ahmedabad has lodged a police complaint alleging that an acquaintance physically assaulted her, abused her and threatened to circulate her private photographs on social media.
The accused, a man from Mehsana, has been booked after the matter was reported to the Vastrapur police.
According to the complaint, the woman, whose identity has been withheld, met Kiran Kumar Rameshbhai Patel, 34, in Unjha in February last year. The two subsequently began communicating regularly by phone and through social media. Their interaction increased when Patel visited Ahmedabad for business purposes in April.
During their time together, the woman discovered that Patel was married and had two children. Despite this, they remained in contact, and during this period, private photographs and videos were allegedly recorded on a mobile phone.
Police said the dispute began in December when Patel allegedly asked the woman for money to purchase an Activa scooter. When she refused, citing financial constraints, he allegedly became aggressive, argued with her on multiple occasions and physically assaulted her.
The complaint further alleges that Patel continued to press for money and, on January 7, threatened the woman during an argument. On January 16, at around 10.30 pm, he allegedly sent private photographs of the two of them to her on WhatsApp and warned that he would make the images and videos public and circulate them among her friends if she did not comply with his demand.
Fearing reputational damage and harassment, the woman approached the Vastrapur police station and filed a formal complaint.
Vastrapur police have registered a case against Patel under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for criminal intimidation, assault and extortion.
Further investigation is underway.
