Burglars decamp with jewellery, cash worth ₹5 lakh from Narol flat

Burglars broke into a residential flat in the Narol area of Ahmedabad and decamped with gold and silver jewellery along with cash worth an estimated ₹5.32 lakh.
According to a complaint lodged at the Narol Police Station, the theft took place between 10.30 am and 2 pm on January 24 at a flat in Shriram Residency, behind a Tata showroom. The complainant, Arjunbhai Bagtharia (34), runs a hair salon on the ground floor of the building and lives with his family on the upper floor.
Bagtharia told the police that he had left his house around 9 pm on January 23 to visit his in-laws in Gota. On January 24, his sister-in-law briefly visited the house in the morning before leaving for work. When Bagtharia returned home around 2 pm, he found the lock of the main door broken.
On entering the house, he discovered that a safe kept in the bedroom had been forced open and its contents scattered on the bed. A subsequent check revealed that gold ornaments weighing about 5.5 tola, valued at approximately ₹5 lakh, silver ornaments weighing around 150 grams worth ₹25,000, and cash amounting to ₹7,000 were missing.
The stolen items included gold chains, a gold bar, a bracelet, pendants and other ornaments, along with several silver articles. The complainant said he realised the extent of the theft after speaking to his wife and later approached the police to lodge a formal complaint. He stated that he did not suspect anyone.
Police have registered a case of house-breaking and theft and initiated an investigation. Officials said they are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning nearby residents to identify the culprit. Further investigation is underway.
