A burglary was reported from Ahmedabad’s Naranpura area after unidentified thieves allegedly broke into a locked residence and decamped with gold ornaments, silver idols and antique temple articles worth approximately ₹34,100, police said.

According to Naranpura police, the theft took place between 10.45 pm on April 14 and 8 am on April 15 at a house in Shraddha Society, near Vijayanagar Metro Station.

Yajush Acharya 35, an assistant commercial manager with the Western Railway, stated that he, along with his mother and wife, had locked the house on the night of April 14 and left for their railway quarters after completing renovation-related work at the property.

The following morning, a neighbour informed the family that the front door of the house was open and suspicious noises had been heard from the premises around 3 am.

Upon reaching the house, the complainant and his family found that the lock of the compound gate as well as the main door had been broken. The house was ransacked, and the lock of an internal safe had also been smashed open.

Police said the stolen items included gold pendants, silver lamps, silver idols of deities, antique coins, brass and copper utensils used for pooja, and other temple artefacts kept inside the house temple and safe.

The complainant initially did not file a detailed complaint as he was still verifying the missing property and later approached police after confirming the stolen articles.

An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons for house-breaking and theft. Naranpura police are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity .
