A Border Security Force (BSF) constable was booked by Gomtipur police in Ahmedabad following allegations by his wife that he maintained an extramarital relationship, fraudulently obtained loans in her name and subjected her to prolonged physical and mental harassment.

Deeptiben Chauhan, 31, who resides in Gomtipur and works as a clerk with the Customs and GST department at GNFC Tower, stated in her complaint that her husband Mayurbhai Jayantibhai Chauhan allegedly concealed his relationship with another woman, while repeatedly borrowing money from her and her family members.

Deeptiben stated that she had financially supported Mayurbhai and his family for several years by taking personal loans from banks and borrowing money from relatives and friends.

She had initially taken a personal loan of ₹2 lakh from an SBI branch and handed the money to Mayurbhai after he allegedly told her his own credit record was poor. She further alleged that after marriage, Mayurbhai persuaded her to take additional loans, including a loan of ₹4.5 lakh and a top-up loan of ₹1.65 lakh from a finance company, claiming the money was needed to repay family debts.

Her sisters and relatives collectively lent substantial sums to her husband and in-laws, while her gold ornaments gifted during marriage were allegedly pawned by Mayurbhai.

Deeptiben became suspicious in September 2025 after noticing repeated late-night calls on her husband’s phone. She alleged that upon checking his WhatsApp messages, she discovered conversations with a woman. When contacted, the woman allegedly identified herself as Jyoti and claimed she had been in a relationship with Mayurbhai before and after marriage.

Whenever Deeptiben confronted her husband about the relationship or finances, he allegedly abused and assaulted her. She also alleged that Mayurbhai openly told her he no longer needed her and intended to marry Jyoti.

Mayurbhai allegedly assaulted Deeptiben after she refused to take another loan on his behalf.

Following repeated disputes, Deeptiben returned to her parental home in Gomtipur.

Based on the complaint, Gomtipur police have registered a case against Chauhan under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to cruelty, cheating, criminal breach of trust and intimidation.
