BRTS in Surat runs over eight vehicles, two deaths suspected
In a tragic accident involving public transport, a BRTS (Bus Rapid Transit System) bus ran over as many as eight vehicles near Gajera Circle of Surat’s Katargam.
In the incident, at least two people are believed to have lost their lives and 10 people were injured. However, there have been no official numbers released yet.
Six of the injured people were reportedly taken to Kiran Hospital, while one person was taken to SMIMER (Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research) hospital.
According to reports, the police rushed to the accident spot, as soon as the incident was reported. The agitated people vandalised the bus after the incident, the police had to disperse the crowd when they arrived at the accident site, according to reports. The accident and the gathering of the crowd on the site also resulted in traffic jams on the bridge.
Education minister for the state, Praful Panseria, and MLA Kanti Balar visited the hospitals where the injured were taken. Minister Panseria also had a call with CM Bhupendra Patel.
Reports suggest that the mayor Daxesh Mavani will also soon visit the hospital.
