A major accident was reported early Thursday morning on the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar (SG) Highway after a Bus Rapid Transit System vehicle rammed into a pillar under a flyover near the Sola Civil Hospital, police officials said.

According to preliminary information, the bus was travelling along the SG Highway when it suddenly lost control and crashed head-on into a pillar under the flyover, triggering panic among commuters in the early hours. The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the bus badly damaged.

The driver sustained serious injuries in the collision and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. His condition was stated to be critical.

Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated traffic control measures, as the accident caused temporary disruption on the busy highway. Further details regarding the cause of the accident and whether there were passengers on board are awaited.

An investigation is under way to ascertain the circumstances leading to the crash, officials said.
