In a tragic incident early on Wednesday morning, a portion of a bridge near Mujpur village in Padra taluka collapsed, causing a truck and a Bolero SUV to plunge into the Mahi River. Initial reports suggest that the accident occurred during peak morning hours when vehicular traffic was significant in the area.

Gujarat CM expresses grief for the Vadodara incident

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, informed that instructions have been given to coordinate with the Vadodara Collector to make immediate arrangements for the treatment of the injured on a priority basis.

Alternative routes announced:

-Heavy vehicles traveling from Tarapur to Vadodara should take the Vasad route to reach Vadodara.

-Light vehicles should take the Umeta route instead of the Gambhira Bridge to reach Vadodara.

-For travel from Padra to Anand or Tarapur, heavy vehicles should take the same Vasad route, while light vehicles should use the Umeta route.

A total of seven vehicles plunged into the Mahi River.

Nine people have been reported dead so far, and five people have been rescued.

As per the Vadodara Collector, rescue operations are still ongoing, and people are facing difficulties in retrieving the truck from the river.

According to the reports, four people have been rescued so far.

According to initial reports, three people have died, and three others have been injured in the incident.

According to locals, the Gambhira-Mujpur bridge, which connects Anand and Vadodara districts, collapsed today under the BJP government due to a lack of maintenance. 

The Vadodara district administration and police are present at the site, working to bring the situation under control. Locals are assisting the authorities, while fire brigade teams have also reached the spot and have begun rescue operations.

Soon after the collapse, Padra MLA Chaitanyasinh Zala left for the spot to assess the situation. Officials from the local administration were also immediately dispatched to the site upon receiving information about the incident.

As of now, the extent of casualties remains unclear. Rescue operations were reportedly underway, with efforts focused on retrieving the vehicles and checking for any trapped occupants.

Authorities have cordoned off the area to prevent further mishaps, and a detailed investigation is likely to be initiated to ascertain the cause of the bridge collapse.
