Bopal police’s timely intervention saves couple, child after suicide bid

Ahmedabad Rural Police saved three lives in the early hours of Wednesday after a couple allegedly consumed poison following a domestic dispute, leaving their 11-year-old son pleading for help on the roadside.

According to officials, the incident took place around 2 am near Devdarshan Apartments in Bopal, when a patrolling team noticed a distressing scene — a woman crying inconsolably, her young son weeping beside her, and her husband lying unconscious in her lap.

When the police rushed to the spot, they learnt that the husband and wife had consumed poison after an argument at home. The boy, too young to understand the situation, was simply begging passersby for help.

Without losing a moment, one of the officers placed his fingers in the unconscious man’s mouth and induced vomiting, continuing until the poison began to come out. The same life-saving intervention was performed on the wife, who was on the verge of collapse.

Both were then rushed to Saraswati Hospital near Vakal Bridge along with their son. Police personnel also comforted the child, offering him food and reassurance while his parents received treatment.

Doctors at the hospital later confirmed that the couple were out of danger. Shocked but relieved family members expressed gratitude to the police for their swift action, which prevented a tragedy.

“Had the officers not acted with urgency, the outcome could have been very different. Their presence of mind saved an entire family,” said a senior police official at Bopal police station.

That night, the Bopal police went beyond their routine duty, offering a rare reminder that policing is as much about compassion and humanity as it is about law enforcement.
