The Ahmedabad Rural Police have cracked a high-value burglary case within days, arresting seven persons including a housemaid in connection with a theft of jewellery and cash worth nearly ₹40 lakh from a bungalow in Bopal.
According to police, the burglary took place around 3 am on August 17 at Chidanand Bungalow, located near the Bopal Post Office. A group of men allegedly broke into the residence and decamped with gold ornaments weighing 370 grams, a pearl set, 300 grams of silver ornaments, and over ₹5 lakh in cash. The total value of stolen property was estimated at ₹40 lakh.
The team of police analysed CCTV footage, technical inputs and human intelligence, which revealed that seven persons had carried out the burglary using a scooter and a CNG rickshaw.
The accused were identified as Dhanpal Kantilal Meena, Harish Manoj Nanoma, Umesh Nagji Parmar, Bhagu Bharat Meena, Harish Jagdish Kalasuwa, Dhanraj Keshu Kalasuwa and Krishna, daughter of Dhanpal. All hail from Rajasthan’s Dungarpur district and were residing in Ahmedabad, mostly in makeshift settlements near the YMCA Club, Sarkhej.
Househelp tipped off associates
Police said Krishna, who worked as a housemaid at the bungalow, had allegedly tipped off her associates after learning that the family had gone out of town. She is accused of passing on information about the valuables kept inside, which enabled the gang to carry out the break-in.
Acting on intelligence, a Bopal D-staff team led by PSI PG Baraiya and technical officer Vijay Patel traced Dhanpal Meena to his native village in Rajasthan and arrested him on August 19. During interrogation, he confessed and revealed the names of his accomplices, following which the others were rounded up.
The police have appealed to residents to register domestic helpers with their nearest police station or through the Citizen Portal, where online registration facilities are available.
“Such registration is important to ensure security and to prevent incidents where insiders may tip off criminal elements,” said a senior officer.
All seven accused are currently in custody, and further investigation and have recover all the stolen property.
