Bootlegger Anil Pandya to be brought to Vadodara after arrest in Dubai
A bootlegger, Anil Pandya, also known as Anil Pandya Jat who was arrested in Dubai will be now brought to Vadodara Police have started the process to bring him back.
Pandya is wanted in dozens of cases related to alcohol smuggling in Gujarat. In Rajasthan, where he hails from, police records list more than 50 cases against him, including murder, extortion and other serious offences. He is expected to be extradited to India under an existing treaty, after which a special squad led by the Director General of Police (DGP) will begin a detailed interrogation.
Link with police constable
Pandya was also associated with one of the police constable, it was revealed when an audio clip went viral showing Pandya talking to State Monitoring Cell (SMC) constable Sajan Ahir. The clip revealed that Pandya had sent ₹15 lakh to the constable through the Angadiya system.
To escape from the police, Pandya used virtual phone numbers, which made it hard to trace him. His men kept watch around his hiding place and warned him early about police raids.
Pandya, also known as Jagdish Prasad Jat, is a native of Rupnagar in Rajasthan. While based in Dubai, he is alleged to have coordinated a cross-border network linking Rajasthan and Gujarat to move large consignments of alcohol into the state, where prohibition has been in force for decades.
After liquor worth ₹1.77 crore was seized from Karjan Highway, Vadodara Police named Pandya as the main accused. Based on Gujarat Police information, Dubai Police arrested him on February 5.
Once Pandya is brought to India, he will be handed over to Vadodara Police for questioning.
