Bomb threat to Ahmedabad Rural Court triggers security alert

Panic gripped the Ahmedabad Rural Court premises on Monday after an anonymous email threatening a bomb blast was received, prompting the authorities to immediately suspend court proceedings and launch an extensive security operation.

According to police officials, the threat was sent via an unidentified email address, warning of a bomb explosion inside the court complex. Acting swiftly, court authorities informed the police, following which all judicial work was halted as a precautionary measure and people present on the premises were moved to safety.

Teams from the Navrangpura police rushed to the spot along with the bomb disposal squad, which began a thorough search of the court campus. Police cordoned off the area and conducted checks inside courtrooms, corridors and other sensitive locations as part of standard operating procedures.

Senior police officers said no suspicious object had been found till the filing of this report, but the search operation was ongoing. “We are taking the threat seriously. The bomb squad is carrying out a detailed sweep of the premises and cyber teams are working to trace the source of the email,” a police official said.

The incident caused disruption to litigants, lawyers and court staff, with hearings being deferred for the day. Police said further action would depend on the outcome of the search and the investigation into the origin of the threat mail.

An FIR is expected to be registered once preliminary verification is completed, officials added.
