A bomb threat email sent to the registrar’s office of the Ahmedabad Metropolitan Court triggered a major security scare on Thursday, prompting authorities to evacuate the premises and launch a search operation.

According to officials of the Ahmedabad City Police, the threatening email warned that the court building would be blown up with explosives. The message was received at the registrar’s office, following which court authorities immediately alerted the police.

Police teams, along with fire brigade personnel, rushed to the court complex and secured the area. Officials said the building was evacuated as a precaution while a thorough search operation was initiated.

Personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the Dog Squad Ahmedabad Police were deployed to scan the premises for any suspicious objects or explosive devices.

During the preliminary investigation, police found that the threatening email had been sent using an email ID linked to Saurabh Biswas, who was recently arrested by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police Station from West Bengal in connection with a cybercrime case.

Investigators said Biswas was allegedly involved in cracking and selling dormant or defunct email accounts on the dark web. These compromised email IDs were then used by unknown persons to send threatening messages, including bomb threats.

Officials said the same email account linked to the accused appears to have been used again to send the latest threat to the court.

Police Inspector P. S. Bhati of Karanj Police Station said the situation was brought under control and no suspicious object had been found during the search so far.

Authorities are continuing the investigation to trace the source of the email and determine who accessed the compromised account to send the threat.
