Bogus GST bill scam likely to cross ₹700 cr, city court refuses bail to accused
The Sessions Court rejected the bail application of the accused in a state-wide scam of falsely obtaining Input Tax Credit (ITC) from the government on the basis of creating more than 250 dummy/ghost firms on the basis of bogus and forged documents, and later buying and selling bogus firms to others.
The Ahmedabad crime branch revealed before the Sessions Court that the figure of the scam is now likely to cross ₹700 crore.
While rejecting the bail application of the accused Dashrath Nagar, the Sessions Court Additional Sessions Judge of the JM Brahmabhatt said that due to the scam, the government has suffered a financial loss of crores of rupees. Considering the seriousness of the crime, the accused cannot be granted bail under any circumstances.
Earlier, opposing the bail application of the accused, chief public prosecutor Sudhir B representing the state government said that the accused had hatched a serious conspiracy in a planned manner with the ulterior motive of getting huge financial benefits from the government.
The accused created fake documents of proprietors of different firms and other firms and registered and obtained GST numbers on the basis of fake documents.
After that, on the basis of this GST number, bogus bills were created, and with the help of it, they illegally obtained verashakh (input tax credit) from the government and caused financial loss of crores of rupees to the government.
Gmail addresses of several firms have been recovered from the mobile phone of the accused, and the investigation is on. This is a dangerous conspiracy and a state-wide scam perpetrated to break the country’s economy.
Considering the sensitivity of the case and the seriousness of the crime, the court should not grant bail to the accused under any circumstances, said the prosecutor.
Accepting these arguments, the court rejected Dashrath Nagar’s bail.
