BJP MLA’s son who owns land, car allotted flat under PM Awas Yojana

The allotment of a flat, provided under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG), to a wealthy politician’s son in Jamnagar has created a controversy.

Dhrol Municipality allotted a flat to Mohit Chavda, son of Meghji Chavda, BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kalavad in Jamnagar under the PMAY scheme.

As per reports, the MLA’s son lives separately and needs a residence. However, his father owns 50 acres of land. Moreover, both father and son own cars.

When asked about the flat under housing scheme, Meghji reasoned, “When he (son) applied for a house, I was not serving as an MLA. Moreover, after marriage, Mohit lived separately and needed a home.”

Meghji won the 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election representing the Bharatiya Janata Party from the reserved Scheduled Caste category in Jamnagar district.
