Updated on Feb 20, at 6.48 p.m.
BJP’s four Rajya Sabha candidates from Gujarat were elected unopposed today. Party president JP Nadda, Govind Dholakia, Jashvantsinh Parmar, and Mayank Nayak are the elected representatives.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was elected as Rajya Sabha MP for the first time in Rajasthan and two candidates from the BJP, Chunni Lal Garasiya and Madan Rathore were elected unanimously from the state.
Union Minister and BJP nominee, Ashwini Vaishnaw along with two BJD leaders were also elected uncontested to the Rajya Sabha.
Veteran BJD leader and former MLA of Barabati-Cuttack constituency, Debashish Samantaray and the Vice President of Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BJYD), Subhasish Khuntia, have also been elected to the Rajya Sabha.
The BJD extended its support to the candidature of Vaishnaw, nominated by the BJP, for the second time, ensuring that the former IAS officer was elected to the Upper House this time too.
He had earlier clarified that there would be no voting on Feb 27 since there is only one contestant each for the three seats for Rajya Sabha from Odisha.
BJP’s L Murugun, Umesh Nath Maharaj, Maya Naroliya, and Banshilal Gurjar have secured a seat in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. While Ashok Singh from Congress secured a seat in the upper house from the state.

BJP today announced a list of four candidates from Gujarat for the Rajya Sabha elections this year.
Nominations include the stalwarts of BJP including president JP Nadda, Govind Dholakia, Mayank Nayak, and Dr Jashvansinh Parmar.
It is to be noted that JP Nadda has represented Himachal Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha since 2012, but the BJP does not have the numbers to win the lone seat from the Congress-ruled state this year.
Meanwhile, the party has also announced the candidature of turncoat Ashok Chavan from Maharashtra. BJP has also fielded Medha Kulkarni and Dr Ajit Gopchhade from the state.
The election commission of India (ECI) has announced Rajya Sabha elections on Feb 27 for the 56 empty seats across 15 states in India.
These also include four seats in Gujarat, the candidates for which are to retire in April.
As the terms of union ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Parshottam Rupala from the BJP, alongside Amee Yajnik and Naran Rathwa from the Congress, are about to end this year, elections are to be held on these four Rajya Sabha seats.
The elections are scheduled to take place on Feb 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the results will be declared at 5 p.m. on the same day.
